Alberta Chestermere Water Festival Canceled Due to Weather
The Chestermere Water Festival in Southern Alberta was recently canceled due to poor weather conditions. The annual celebration was scheduled to take place the weekend of July 16 but was canceled due to low temperatures, wind, and lightning. Event planners decided to cancel the event because of concerns regarding public safety.
Sever weather conditions prompted Easter Seals Alberta to cancel the Banded Peak Challenge and Ridgeback Revenge events because the trails were unsafe. Organizers will reschedule the trail race for the fall if weather permits.
The Banded Peak Challenges is a country fundraising adventure that takes place in Kananaskis Country. It includes biking and hiking 16 km to the summit of Moose Mountain. Canceling the event is a big financial loss for Easter Seals Alberta. Banded Peak raised $80,000 for children with disabilities in Easter Seals Camp Horizon every year before 2013. Funds go towards lowering the cost of the camp for disabled children.
Wendy Bradbury reported watching a funnel cloud appear on the northwest side of Airdrie. She captured the scene on camera. Rainfall warnings were in effect for areas north and west of Calgary. A weather advisory warning of favorable funnel cloud conditions was also in effect in Calgary on Saturday.
